I’m Still In Charge In Lagos – Imohimi

Redeployed Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi on Tuesday refused to handover to Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, insisting that he is still in charge in Lagos.

Imohimi was expected to handover to Egbetokun as new commissioner on Tuesday, but he broke the news that he was still in charge and that there was no change of baton.

Imohimi and Egbetokun were at the ceremony with other top police officers, when he said that the power from above asked him to remain in office and not handover to the new acting CP.

According to him, he had received a phone call from the “above” to suspend the handover as the statuesque remains, theleadng.com reports.

This statement sparked jubilation among the rank and file at the venue.

Imohimi was on Sunday, redeployed to the Force headquarters in Abuja, as the Commissioner of Police in-charge of the Explosive Ordinance Unit, Police sources hinted.

Police To Prosecute Those Peddling Rumour of MC Oluomo’s death

Anyone caught spreading rumour of the death of Lagos State National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Treasurer Musiliu Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo will be prosecuted, a government agency warned yesterday.

Reiterating that Oluomo is not dead, the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Task Force) described the rumour peddlers as miscreants who are planning to foment trouble and cause panic in Oshodi and other major motor parks.

In a statement by its spokesman, Taofiq Adebayo, the agency said Chairman Olayinka Egbeyemi had confirmed that Akinsanya “is not dead but recuperating in hospital”.

The task force urged the NURTW leadership to call its members to order, noting that the police would prosecute  any hoodlum who disrupted peace.

It said: “Once again, we are using this medium to warn miscreants and hoodlums who may want to foment mayhem to desist or face the full wrath of the law. We are urging parents and guardians to monitor their children and wards.

“The agency will patrol the nooks and crannies of Oshodi to forestall a breakdown of law and order.”

It urged the people not to panic as they go about their activities in Oshodi and other parts of the state.

Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Chairman Idris Muse-Ariyoh said Akinsanya would soon return home.

“There is no problem in Oshodi. Anyone trying to cause mayhem will be dealt with in accordance with the law. It is a rumour that there is crisis in Oshodi. Oshodi is peaceful. People are going about their activities without panic.”

Lagos Guber Debate: ADP Candidate, Gbadamosi Steals Show, Floors Sanwo-olu, Agbaje

The candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Babatunde Gbadamosi, was the dark horse that wowed members of the audience in Saturday’s Lagos gubernatorial election debate, as he spoke confidently of his plans if elected governor of the country’s commercial capital.

Mr Gbadamosi, who was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before defecting to the ADP, received rave reviews of his performance in the debate, which was organised by The Platform, a civic discussion initiative of the Covenant Christian Centre.

The interview which was moderated by British-Nigerian Christian broadcaster, Victor Oladokun, had in attendance alongside Mr Gbadamosi, the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the PDP candidate, Jimi Agbaje, and the candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Owolabi Salis.

Mr Gbadamosi started off on a somewhat shaky note when he was asked about what he would do in his first hundred days in office if elected. He explained that he would try increasing the salaries of civil servants in the state, but he did not explain how he would raise the additional fund needed to do this.

He, however, bounced back from the initial flutter, arguing that his priority will be to boost the infrastructural shortfall of the state by building rail lines to all the exit points of the state, opening up water transportation and the movement of container by barges instead of through the roads to cut the infamous Lagos traffic.

The ADP candidate, who berated the ruling party in the state for lack of prudence in running the state finances, said he would bring his experience from the private sector in handling the spending of state funds.

According to him, he would be able to do this because he “does not have a godfather”, which was a snide remark on the candidate of the ruling APC, Mr Sanwo-Olu, who enjoys the backing of a former governor of the state, Bola Tinubu, generally believed to be the de facto political leader of the state.

Mr Gbadamosi also correctly fact-checked the APC candidate after he falsely stated that the state government was transparent and publishes its budgets. Mr Gbadamosi pointed out that the state budget website no longer existed stating that the government is known for being opaque rather than open. He said if elected into office he would operate an open government.

He berated the current government for being unable to complete its light rail project in 10 years and wondered why the state was paying for it from its purse when it could have welcomed the private sector to finance the project. He also said at a cost of almost $1 billion, the light rail project was too expensive.

l
He said he would open up the state waterways and improve tourism as a means of growing the state tax revenue if elected into office.

In all, he was the most eloquent of the candidate on display. The figures and data he quoted were mostly correct. He also cited examples of what was being done in other places with similar demographics like Lagos such as Singapore and Ethiopia.

“An order directing the 1st Defendant (EFCC) to immediately arrest and commence the criminal prosecution of the First Lady of Kano State of Nigeria, Dr. Hafsatu Abdullahi Ganduje [a co-conspirator], in the corrupt episode of kick-back (bribe) taking [to the tune of $5, 000,000.00] by the Governor as contained in a viral online “An order of this Honourable Court declaring void, quashing and setting aside the submission of the name of the Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, as the candidate of the 3rd Defendant in the 2019 governorship election holding in Kano State of Nigeria.

The VP gave the commendation at an interdenominational church service to mark the 2019 Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Abuja, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

He said it was a huge thanks to God for giving Nigeria, men and women who were ready to obey the call to fight, and if needed, to die for their fatherland.

“We are grateful that they were faithful to the cause, they did not betray the trust of millions, they gave up all the comfort of life and the love and affection of family that we may enjoy the same.

” Our posthumous thanks go to them and their families who not only bear the fearful apprehension of their going to war, but also the heart break of their death.

“Our gratitude must also mean a commitment to ensuring that their families are cared for, that their children do not ask why the sacrifice at all,” he stressed.

According to Osinbajo, this year’s armed forces remembrance day is unique because of recent happenings at the theatre of war in Borno, where the military recently recorded some casualties.

He said that few weeks ago, the country had buried 13 Soldiers and five Airforce Pilots adding that they all died in battle fending off Boko Haram and ISIS West Africa terrorists in the North East.

He noted that in the past few years, Nigeria had seen patriotism at its highest with the help of valiant men and women of the armed forces who had destroyed the backbone of boko haram.

Osinbajo however sought strong unity among Nigerians adding that unity and peaceful co-existence among citizens of the country were the greatest tribute they could pay to the country’s fallen heroes.

According to him, the ordinary people of Nigeria have demonstrated oneness time and time and share common problems and a belief in common destiny.

” Nigerians will forever be grateful to the fallen heroes, veterans and members of the armed forces for availing themselves to defend the territorial integrity of the country.

“There is always a price for peace, which the military have paid, while other citizens enjoy it,” he said.

On his part, Guest Preacher at the event, the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, His Eminence, Cardinal John Onaiyekan said Jan.15 each year should remind Nigerians that a good end must be pursued by a good means.

Lagos Police Commissioner, Edgal Imohimi, Redeployed

Five out of the six governors of the South-South Governors Forum have asked the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, not to honour the summons from the Code of Conduct Bureau.

The Bureau had asked the CJN to appear before the Code of Conduct tribunal for alleged non-declaration of assets.

The governors made the call after an emergency meeting in Abuja on Sunday.

“We call on the CJN to ignore this so-called Court summon from the CCB and the provocative call for his resignation in some quarters,” the governors said in a communique issued after the meeting.

“While we are not opposed to a genuine fight against corruption, such and action must always be anchored on the rule of law.”

The meeting was attended by the governors of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta and Rivers with Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State who is a member of the All Progressives Congress absent.

Bayelsa State Governor, Mr Seriake Dickson, who is the Chairman of the forum had summoned the emergency meeting on Saturday after the CCT announced that the CCB had filed six charges against the CJN with the trial scheduled to start on Monday.

In the communique, which was read by Governor Dickson after the meeting, the governors said the move by the CCB was unacceptable.

They argued that the legal procedures for investigating allegations of misconduct against judicial officials were not followed in that matter and accused the executive of targetting other arms of government.

“We note that the attempt to drag the CJN to the CCT is also a grave and dangerous escalation of the assault on institutions of state on institutions of state including the National Assembly and judiciary,” they said.

To them, the move is reflective “of the South-South story of endless marginalization and intimidation”.

“The unceremonious removal of former Acting Director General of the Department of State Service, Mathew Seiyefa and his replacement is still very fresh,” they added.

“We not that that unfortunate action against the CJN further reinforces the perception that the Buhari administration has no regard for the sentiments of Nigerians, in particular, the people of Niger Delta, and the rule of law.”
