The birthday of Akinwunmi Ambode, the governor of Lagos, is on Sunday 14 June, but he wants friends and well wishers to channel their gifts and donations into fighting cancer, a statement said on Wednesday, and a bank account was unveiled for donations.

The statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna, explained that the Governor was seeking the understanding of his friends by respecting his wish that he wants to use the birthday as his modest way of touching the distressed and impacting on humanity.

“As a modest way of touching the distressed and making impact on humanity, I have decided to associate with ‘The Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP-Nigeria)’ in fighting the big war against cancer”, the Governor said.

Towards this end, he urged interested people to send such donations to the First Bank Account of The Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP-Nigeria); No:2026761622.

He said the project is being anchored by Dr. Christopher Kolade and Professor Pat Utomi and thanked the people for accepting his wish, assuring them that all such gestures will be acknowledged and appreciated.
