Abia: Senator Nkechi Nwaogu Dumps PDP For APC

imageImmediate past senator representing Abia Central senatorial zone at the Senate, Senator Nkechi Justina Nwaogu has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Nwaogu who was speaking at a ceremony marking her defection for the APC in Umuahia, said she dumped the PDP because the party lost focus and started playing God, which caused it to lose the presidential election.

She lamented that there is no internal democracy in the PDP as she was not allowed to exercise her franchise in the governorship election.

The former senator, who represented Obingwa / Osisioma Ngwa / Ugwunagbo federal constituency in the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007 and Abia Central zone at the senate from 2007 to 2015, stated that she joined the APC to help bring change to Abia and Nigeria, and commended the state leaders of the APC for holding the party together.

“I reaffirm that I have willingly decided to be a loyal and respectful member of the APC. It is a day of joy, home coming and rediscovery of myself once again. I have come to support the party and not to take over. I thank God for seeing me through the House of Reps and Senate for 12 years. After 12 years, there must be change for the better. I have joined the change train. I am here to work with you to move the party, state and Nigeria forward. We need to collectively build and reposition APC in Abia state. We must be the agents of change Nigerians crave for. I will help to make APC more viable in Abia,”Nwaogu who chaired the Senate Gas Committee said.

Receiving the former senator into the party, State Chairman of the APC , Chief Donatus Nwankpa, said APC has made a big catch with a political heavyweight like Nwaogu’s, adding that her entry marks a turning point for the party in the state.

Nwankpa disclosed that the APC’s doors are open to reputable politicians as the party is desirous of taking her rightful place in the politics of the state.

In their separate remarks, BoT member of the party, Chief Sam Nkire, ex deputy governor, Comrade Chris Akomas, former Assembly Speaker, Chief Stanley Ohajuruka, APC governorship candidate, Dr. Nyerere Anyim who was represented by his deputy, Chief Richard Harrison as well as the Abia Central zonal chairman of the party, Chief Okey Nwagbara; described Nwaogu as a strong grassroots politician any party would be proud to have as a member, adding that with her defection, Abia APC is getting repositioned to take over the state.
