Management of The Guardian Newspapers Limited has announced the appointment of former Editor, Sunday of the paper, Abraham Ogbodo as the editor of all titles in the company.
Jewell Dafinone who has been acting as editor of the daily paper for about six months, some senior editorial staff and others were reportedly handed their letters of disengagement from the company on Tuesday.
The former Managing Director of the company, Mr Emeka Izeze recently issued a statement that he resigned his appointment and was not sacked along with some top executives as widely reported.
With over 31 journalists said to have been affected by the on-going reorganization in the company, the fate of many others remains uncertain.
It is not clear what role the former Editor-in-Chief of the paper, Dabo Adesina will be in the changes which the company said is aimed at repositioning the media outfit for greater efficiency.
Others appointed along with Ogbodo were Godwin Okosun as Executive Head of Printing; Jude Ndu as Chief Commercial Officer and Solomon Alonge as Chief Financial Officer.
Ogbodo, who now oversees all the titles in The Guardian stable, started his media career as a Sub-Editor, African Guardian Magazine in February 1989. Since then, he has worked himself up to the position of Editor of The Guardian on Sunday.
Widely travelled, both locally and internationally, he has garnered reputation as a media manager and journalist. His highly regarded Backlash column in The Guardian on Sunday further defines him as a notable newspaper columnist. He has also served on various public committees in Delta State, where he hails from.
Okosun is Executive Head of Printing whose operational responsibility includes Printing, Engineering and Distribution. He joined The Guardian as a Technical Trainee in 1985 and rose to the position of Head of Printing (Newspapers).
Ndu is Chief Commercial Officer in charge of Advertising, Circulation, Conferences and Master Classes. An experienced marketing and sales strategist with a background in economics, Ndu has many years of media industry experience as a columnist and author.
Alonge is Chief Financial Officer with responsibility for Administration, Human Resources, Information Technology, Facility and Security. He is an experienced financial and operations executive with working experience spanning over 25 years in Telecom, Engineering, Insurance and Banking.
