Abuja Court Lifts Ban On Former President Obasanjo’s Autobiography, ‘My Watch’

imageA High Court sitting in Apo, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has lifted an injunction stopping former President Olusegun Obasanjo from publishing his autobiography, “My Watch.”

Delivering the verdict, Justice Valentine Ashi directed the Nigerian Customs Service to release he books which have been in its custody since December 2014 on account of the injunction, adding that Customs should not collect demurrage on the books for the period they had spent in their custody.

Obasanjo’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi (SAN) had argued that the applicant Buruji Kashamu, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Ogun State, who is pursuing a N20 billion libel suit against Obasanjo, suppressed vital facts in obtaining the injuction.

imageKashamu is seeking damages over a part of the book where Obasanjo had written a letter dated Monday, December 2, 2015 to President Goodluck Jonathan describing Kashamu as a wanted fugitive in the United States of America for drug related offences.

The case has been adjourned until Monday, May 25, 2015.
