The city of FCT Abuja was recently agog at the behest of the Corporate Affairs Commission whose Board Chairman, Demola Seriki, was sent forth after serving meritoriously to earn yet a bigger portfolio from the government.
Seriki, the former Minister of State for Defence, was recently appointed the Nigerian Ambassador to Spain, was hosted to a glitzy dinner by the commission at the prestigious Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, alongside his third wife, Sholape.
Looking resplendent in fitting native outfits, the couple was the cynosure of all eyes at the get-together graced by eminent Nigerians across all walks of life.
Notable among the dignitaries at the event were; Dr. Osagie Ehanire, the Minister of Health, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mariam Katagum, the Minister of State (FMITI), Mr. Segun Awolowo Jnr., the Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, Yewande Sadiku, the Executive Secretary/CEO of NIPC, Fola Tinubu, Managing Director /Chief Executive Officer, Primero Transport Services and Chief Sunday Dare, the Minister of Sports, ably represented by his wife- all of who made the event grand.
While giving his speech, Otunba Adebayo reiterated the confidence of the Nigerian government in the Ambassador-Designate whom he also referred to as his “brother and friend”. His words read in part; “I congratulate you my friend and brother, I wish you all the best including more than you wish yourself. And I pray that your representation will bring a lot more dividends to Nigeria. I have no doubts that it would be…”
In the same vein, the Minister of State (FMITI), Mariam Katagum, shared a few nuggets of success which she’d also adopted when serving in similar capacity. “You’re the representative of Mr. President, so it also means you’d adopt serious discipline because the tone of the mission will be based on what you set. If you go to work on time, the officers there will be there on time. If you’re not there on time, the officers too won’t be there…I know some missions you’d call at 11am and they’d pretend they’re in the office when they’re actually not there…Please my dear brother, you’re going to make a great difference there…”, she urged.
Garba Abubakar, the Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission, also lauded Demola Seriki, whom he assured is a round peg in a round hole.
“We’re therefore not surprised that President Muhammadu Buhari found the chairman worthy of this position. His new responsibility would afford him the opportunity to negotiate agreements and treaties between the two countries which would further strengthen our bi-lateral relationship.”
