Baba Ijesha To Remain In Detention Till July 25 As Court Rejects Bail Application

Popular Nollywood actor, Omiyinka James Popularly known as Baba Ijesha’s bail application has been rejected by the magistrate court.

This was made known by the lawyer to the embattled actor who made it known that the magistrate has no jurisdiction to much as regards the bail because the government has filed the case at the high court.

It was noted that Baba Ijesha will remain in detention till he will be tried at the high court.

Baba Ijesha has been under fire since April 22, 2021, when the Lagos State Police Command announced his arrest for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in the care of popular comedienne, Adekola Adekanya, otherwise called Princess.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, had said there was substantial evidence against the actor as he was caught in the act on Closed Circuit Television.

One of the counsels for Baba Ijesha, Adesina Ogunlana, had said the actor was granted bail by a magistrate but alleged that officials of the Lagos State Police Command demanded N500,000 to get the thespian released despite a court order granting him bail.

The industrial action by the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria had stalled the case but the case is set to commence today as the judicial workers called off their strike last week.
