Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Pledges $80m For Women Data

imageBill & Melinda Gates Foundation has pledged $80 million to efforts to gather better quality data on women and gender gap inequality.

Announcing the pledge at the Women Deliver Conference in Copenhagen, Melinda Gates said quality periodic data showing what women are doing and how they are doing it helps government, civil society and organisations know where to place their money.

That’s the kind of data I want to see, not just for child mortality, disease, family planning, but for all kinds of things about women.”

Gates said women around the world are increasingly fending for families and earning even more than men but none of their work shows up on surveys.
