BREAKING: President Jonathan Pays Surprise Visit To Boko Haram’s Hotbed, Maiduguri

imagePresident Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday paid a surprise visit to the hotbed of Boko Haram’s insugency which has claimed thousands of lives.

Jonathan landed at the Maiduguri Airport Thursday afternoon, in what many see a well-thought-out swing strategy ahead of the 2015 elections coming up on February 14.

The Chief of Defense staff, Air Vice Marshall Alex Badeh and National Security adviser, Sambo Dasuki arrived the airport in a separate aircraft.

Governor Kashim Shettima arrived the airport to receive the president.

Mr President has come under very harsh criticisms in the past for failing to visit the troubled north-east region where thousands have been killed by insurgents. He was mostly criticized for not showing sufficient concern when over 200 school girls were kidnapped in the town of Chibok over 260 days ago.
