Mourinho Pockets £22.5m Severance Pay

Sacked Manchester United coach, Jose Mourinho is leaving the club in the doldrums, sixth on the premier league table, but he is leaving with a bulging pocket.

According to British media reports, United will have to pay £22.5 million ($28 million) — as the club are still in the Champions League — to sever the ties with the 55 year-old Portuguese.

Mourinho, who had coached Chelsea, Porto, Real Madrid is the third coach to be fired at Old since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 after 27 years in charge.

The job has been a most difficult one since then.

Mourinho, in his third season, was sacked as the great club languished in sixth in the Premier League, a massive 19 points behind rivals and leaders Liverpool.

Mourinho’s last duty was humiliating as the club suffered a 3-1 drubbing by Premier League league leaders Liverpool on Sunday.

His downfall was predictably accurate after the match as the club owners got tired with his excuses.

Came the club’s bombshell.

Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect,” a club statement said.

“The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.

“A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager.”

Carrick is favoured for the caretaker role having become part of the coaching staff this season.

In the longer term former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has been linked to the club and Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino could also be a name in the frame.

Mourinho’s reign had started well enough with the League Cup and the Europa League trophies but neighbours Manchester City’s dominance over them in the league has hurt.

The wound went even deeper for Mourinho as City are managed by Pep Guardiola, who got the better of him when he managed Barcelona and Mourinho was at Real Madrid.

BREAKING: Manchester United Sacks Jose Mourinho

Manchester United Football Club has sacked coach Jose Mourinho with immediate effect. Mourinho’s sack followed the poor performance of the club in the season with just two wins in the last eight matches.

Most recently, Man U lost 3-1 to arch rivals, Liverpool at Anfield with Liverpool having 36 shots on target while Man-U only had six goals shots on target.

Man U’s performance in 2018 had been abysmally poor as the club had lost to even smaller teams whom they were pitched to win against.

The Red Devils currently sit sixth in the Premier League table but have already lost five times in 17 matches, leaving them 19 points behind leaders Liverpool and 11 off fourth-placed Chelsea in the fight for Champions League places.

The club simply wrote on its website: “Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect.

“The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.

“A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager.

Mourinho replaced Louis van Gaal in 2016 and was tasked with leading the 20-time English champions back after the club went trophy-less for three years since Sir Alex Ferguson’s appointment.

The Portuguese started off well snatching the Community Shield in his first match in charge and going on to win Carabao Cup 3-2 against Southampton. However the Red Devils on finished sixth place in the premier league.

IN his second season, Mourinho’s led the club to finish second place with so many points gap by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. In that same season, Man U also crashed out of the Champions League to Sevilla in the last 16 and lost the FA Cup final to Chelsea.

HiTV, Toyin Subair, Marries Indian Lady, Anita Gupta

Toyin Subair, the owner of defunct pay television station, HITV, is getting married to his beautiful lover of many years, Anita Gupta, in India. Subair, who divorced his first wife some years ago, has ventured into the mysterious overland; that peculiar haven bordered by esplanades of secret treasures and colourful spokes of eternal delight.

Thanks to sweet heavenly grace, he has rediscovered bliss in ravishing Indian belle, Anita; hardly anyone believed that Toyin, a jolly good guy, would find another love of his life so soon. To high society trolls, it is unbelievable, but to Toyin, it’s simply ethereal.

However, at the reception, for the first dance, the groom, Toyin, stared into the eyes of his bride, Anita, as if he meant to rediscover a familiar treasure trove. He stared into her eyes wondering how many wonders subsist in the two shiny orbs and windows into her soul. Anita too looked like he would mesh with Toyin. She looked even more ready to interlock with him in body, mind, spirit and soul. The couple filled up each other’s glances with muted affectation of undying love.

Yes, Toyin and Anita have entwined their hearts where fortune melds with acclaim. Add power to the mix and you have a perfect picture of a union forged on earth, approved by mortals and sanctified by the blessed breath of heaven.

Expectedly, it is a classy event. Though a small gathering, the wedding has in excess the components of an elaborate Nigerian party. The ambience is celestial in its gold draperies.

Pastor Buys $200,000 Lamborghini Car For Wife

Pastor John Gray: draws flaks for shelling $200,000 on Lamborghini as present for his wife on wedding anniversary

The pastor of a megachurch in South Carolina, United States has defended buying a $200,000 Lamborghini luxury car as gift for his wife on their eighth wedding anniversary.

Pastor John Gray captured headlines over the weekend after an Instagram video taken of the moment he handed his wife the keys to the bow-wrapped “Lamborghini Urus” on Saturday went viral.

Gray, who is the pastor of Relentless Church, later stressed online that he had purchased the vehicle for his wife, while rebutting critics who raised suggestions about whether he bought the car with church money.

“God helped me to make my wife’s dream come true,” Gray said in an Instagram post on Tuesday. “Why not? She’s made mine come true!”

He then addressed the matter in a video on Facebook Live on Thursday, in which he doubled down on his defence of the purchase and said “not a nickel, not a penny” of money from the church went to the gift.

“First of all, it wasn’t a pastor that bought the car. It was a husband that bought the car,” Gray said in the video. “I’m a husband first. Don’t confuse what I do with who I am. What I do is I pastor God’s people. Who I am is a husband and a father and I’ll do anything to honour them. And I won’t ask permission from anybody to do it.”—Pastor John Gray

“I’m a husband first. Don’t confuse what I do with who I am. What I do is I pastor God’s people. Who I am is a husband and a father and I’ll do anything to honour them. And I won’t ask permission from anybody to do it.”

“My wife has pushed for my dreams and my vision, and she has toiled with a man who is still trying to find himself,” Gray continued. “That carries a weight. I wanted to honor her for how she’s covered me.”

“What should concern people who are actually genuinely concerned is ‘did this man use any money from the church to do this?’ And the answer is no, absolutely not,” he continued.

Some critics pointed to the pastor’s association with Lakewood Church pastor Joel Osteen, who once proclaimed, “It’s God’s will for you to live in prosperity instead of poverty.”

Osteen has also captured flak for his lifestyle, including living in a $10.5 million mansion in River Oaks, according to the Houston Chronicle.

However, other social media users supported Gray and his wife, Aventer Gray, and questioned why people were critical of the purchase given the pastor also has other forms of income.

Gray’s wife also jumped to her husband’s defense on Instagram, mentioning a number of different projects her husband is currently involved in – including a reality show on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) and his various book deals.

“I don’t see anyone screaming about how basketball players drive what they do while you paying $$$ to see them play in arenas and on fields. We don’t live for people! We live for God!” she said in the post.

Trump Shortlists Son-in-law, Jared Kushner, For Chief of Staff

Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner is on the short-list of potential candidates for the president’s next chief of staff, US media said.

Kushner, an influential White House adviser and husband of Trump’s daughter Ivanka, met with the Republican leader to discuss the job, according to the Huffington Post, which first reported the story.

“I am not aware that he is under consideration but, as I think all of us here would recognize, he would be great in any role that the president chooses to put him in,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said of the news, which was also reported by CBS.

The president has been searching in vain for a new chief of staff after announcing that John Kelly, a retired general he had reportedly fallen out with, was to leave by the end of the year.

Nick Ayres, the 36-year-old chief of staff to Vice President Mike Pence, had been touted as favorite to get the job, but announced he was taking himself out of the running, dealing a blow to the president.

Mark Meadows, a North Carolina Republican who heads the hard-right Freedom Caucus in the House of Representatives, showed more interest — but also ultimately withdrew his candidacy.

Kushner was a key player in negotiations with Canada and Mexico to preserve a free trade pact between the North American countries.

He has also led efforts to draft a Middle East peace plan that the Trump administration said it will unveil in early 2019.

The 37-year-old has also cultivated close ties with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is accused of playing a role in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, a case that has rattled the kingdom’s ties with the West.

The news is sure to set off warnings of nepotism, however, especially considering that Kushner had no prior experience in government before Trump’s election.

Like his father-in-law, he left New York real estate to become one of Washington’s most powerful political players.

Jamal Khashoggi : US Senate Blames Saudi Crown Prince

The US Senate resolution that condemns Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is largely seen as a rebuke to President Donald Trump, who is seeking to minimise fallout from journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s killing on the US-Saudi relationship.

US senators voted on Thursday to pass a resolution condemning the murder of Jamal Khashoggi and holding Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman responsible for the heinous act.

The resolution was introduced by foreign relations committee chairman Bob Corker and adopted by a voice vote.

It was the second resolution to pass the chamber on Thursday following an earlier approval to end US military support for the Saudi-led war in Yemen.

That resolution is largely seen as a rebuke to US President Donald Trump who is seeking to minimise fallout from Khashoggi’s killing on the US-Saudi relationship, insisting bin Salman had no role in the murder.

Corker’s resolution offers a reproach to the stance taken by Trump who, despite reports that American intelligence concluded the crown prince’s role in the killing, has maintained warm relations with the kingdom and its de-facto leader.

Unlike the Yemen resolution, Corker’s bill did not face stiff resistance from Senate leadership which sought to stave off prospects of a clash with the White House over the legislative response to Khashoggi’s murder.

Saudi Arabia initially denied any role in Khashoggi’s disappearance when he went missing after entering the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul, Turkey on October 2.

After producing various contradictory explanations, Riyadh acknowledged he was killed inside the diplomatic building, blaming the act on a botched rendition operation.

That explanation has been met with major skepticism from many on Capitol Hill who insist that US intelligence, that they have been privy to, indicates a strong role for bin Salman.

Saraki Attends Launch of Trump’s Africa Strategy In Washington

President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, attendeed the launch of United States of America (U.S) President, Donald J. Trump’s, Strategy for Africa, which was unveiled to the public yesterday.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, the new United States strategy demands for more effective utilisation of existing U.S. resources on the continent.

The Trump plan, according to U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of African Affairs, Tibor P. Nagy, Jr., will focus on bringing more foreign direct investment into Africa.

It is also in line with the Legislative Agenda of the 8th National Assembly which is aimed at reforming the Nigerian economy through strategic legislation that will help promote increased participation of private sector actors.

Other members of the Senate President’s delegation include Senator Ben Bruce, Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs and Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee.

Honourable Nnenna Ukeje, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs is also on the delegation.

Over 250 Journalists In Jails Worldwide In 2018 – CPJ

Over 250 journalists are imprisoned around the world for their professional activities, the Committee to Protect Journalists, CPJ, said on Thursday, citing its annual global survey.

“Fresh waves of repression in China, Egypt and Saudi Arabia sustained the global crackdown on press freedom in 2018.
“For the third consecutive year, at least 251 journalists are in jail in relation to their works.

“Turkey is still the world’s worst jailer of journalists,” the CPJ said.

The committee said that 70 per cent of the jailed journalists were charged with anti-state activities, including being part of groups considered as terrorists by authorities,

The report noted that 98 per cent of those journalists were detained in their home countries, while only five of them were jailed in states that they were non-citizens.

Trump Cancels White House Christmas Party For The Media

President Trump has canceled the White House holiday party for the media, making the decades-old tradition a victim of his increasingly contentious relationship with major news organizations.

The annual Christmas-season gathering was a significant perk for those covering the White House, as well as other Washington reporters, anchors and commentators, and New York media executives would regularly fly in for the occasion. At its peak, the invitation-only soirees grew so large that there were two back-to-back events, one for broadcast outlets and one for print organizations.

Journalists who attended the events, which featured a catered buffet of lamb chops, crab claws and elaborate desserts, got to roam the decorated mansion with a spouse or other family member, a friend or a colleague, adding to the invitation’s allure.

But the biggest fringe-benefit was the picture-taking sessions, in which the president and first lady would patiently pose with guests and briefly chat with them in front of a Christmas tree, with the White House sending out the photos — copies of which were invariably sent home to mom. This would take a couple of hours, with long lines snaking across the building’s first floor. Bill Clinton even posed for pictures with journalists days after he was impeached.

Top White House officials, especially the communications staff, routinely circulated at these media parties and often talked shop. Last year, chief of staff John Kelly held forth with reporters for at least 15 minutes, making informal remarks that turned into a mini-press conference.

The decision is hardly shocking, given Trump’s constant attacks on “fake news” and the overwhelmingly negative coverage of him and his administration. In recent weeks, the White House pulled the credentials of CNN’s Jim Acosta after he refused to give up the microphone at a news conference and restored his pass only after the network filed a lawsuit.

Trump has also twice refused to attend the White House Correspondents Dinner, a tony media awards dinner attended by every president since Richard Nixon.

While dropping the media party, the White House is in the midst of a full panoply of other parties this holiday season. Selected media people generally favorable to Trump, including a few Fox News hosts, have made those guest lists.

When Democrats have been in the White House, more liberal commentators have gotten invitations, while more conservative pundits have shown up during Republican administrations.

Some critics questioned whether those who cover or comment on the White House should engage in such socializing, but few turned down the invitations. Many Trump supporters who view his coverage as unfairly harsh will undoubtedly welcome the president’s decision to exclude the media establishment, at least for this year.
