Domestic Worker Sentenced To Death For Killing Ogun Magistrate

imageAn Ogun State High Court sitting at Isabo in Abeokuta has sentenced 26-year-old Igede, Benue State-born David Idah to death by hanging following the murder of a retired Senior Magistrate in the state, Mrs Olufunmilayo Timeyin last year.

Idah, 26, was sentenced to death on Wednesday in Abeokuta by Justice Abiodun Akinyemi after the suspect was found guilty of the offence which he committed at the residence of the deceased ‎located in Landerin Housing Estate in Abeokuta on March, 2014.

Idah was represented in the Court by his counsel, Mr Felix Dalley. He was arraigned in Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court on April 7 on a one-count charge of unlawful killing.

The offence contravened Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

It was gathered that prior to the gruesome murder of the 65-year-old magistrate, ‎Idah was arrested and detained by Police when he was alleged to have stolen household items, such as jewelry, electronics and mobile phones, belonging to the late magistrate. He was later caught by the police while negotiating to sell the items at Oke-Ilewo area of Abeokuta.

However, the late Timeyin was said to have pleaded with the Police to release Idah. This turned out to be a very grave move, for it resulted in her death.

It was gathered that Idah scaled the building’s fence and sneaked into the home of his former employer in the evening.

He waited for her to come out and open the gate for her son, Olamide.

When Olamide knocked the gate, the retired Magistrate came out but walked into the waiting Idah, who killed her immediately.

The alarm raised by Olamide, who had been waiting at the gate and the desperate cries for help, attracted some residents, who alerted the Ogun State Vigilance Service.
