Xenophobic Statement: Donald Trump Needs Psychiatric Examination, Not Fit To Govern America – Nigerians

imageSome Nigerians have reacted angrily to xenophobic comments about Africa by Donald Trump, a leading U.S. Republican presidential aspirant.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja, the respondents expressed disappointment at such racist comments coming from a major presidential contender in the U.S.

Trump was reported to have said in Indianapolis, U.S. that African Americans were lazy and that Africa needed re-colonisation for 100 years.

“African Americans are very lazy. The best they can do is gallivanting around ghettoes, lamenting how they are discriminated against.

“These are the people America doesn’t need. They are the enemies of progress.

“Look at African countries like Kenya for instance; those people are stealing from their own government and go to invest the money in foreign countries.

“In my opinion, most of these African countries ought to be re-colonised again for another 100 years because they know nothing about leadership and self-governance.”

“I promise to make America great again by restoring our dignity that we have since lost through Obama.

“The more reason why I still believe that he, and his Kenyan brothers and sisters should be deported back to Kenya to make America safe,’’ Trump was quoted as saying.

In his reaction, a legal practitioner, Mr Maxwell Opara, said Trump’s comments were unfortunate, adding that Americans needed to take it up with him for insulting their president.

Opara said that the first step should be to take Trump to a psychiatric home to examine his mental condition.

“You do not join issues with someone who may be a lunatic; you need to make sure he is mentally stable considering his exposure, status and education.

“He should be scrutinised to ensure he is mentally stable before other issues will come up,’’ Opara said.

Mr Dominic Oraba, a Political Analyst, said that it was saddening that a 21st century American of that status could make such unguarded utterances.

He said that it was not the first time Trump was insulting Africans as he had done so previously even before joining the U.S. presidential race.

“Trump is a known racist; he has a track record of using abusive words on African and Latinos.

“Such a person should not aspire to rule America which is a miniature world; America is a country of immigrants among who were Trump’s ancestors.

“The only punishment awaiting him is to be rejected by Americans at the polls; this type of man will turn the world upside down, if he becomes U.S. president,’’ he said.

Mr John Ibaji, a Social Commentator, said that Trump’s speeches showed that he himself needed mental re-colonisation and total re-reorientation.

According to him, Trump talks like an illiterate who knows little or nothing about the history of America and what Africa contributed to the growth of America.

“It is indeed amazing that such hatred for non-whites emanate from someone who wants to rule the most powerful nation in the world.

“I think his sanity is questionable,’’ Ibaji said.
