The Ebonyi State government, on Wednesday, declared a seven-day mourning period in memory of Governor Dave Umahi’s late mother, Mrs Margaret Umahi.
Dr. Kelechi Igwe, the Deputy Governor, made the declaration when members of the State Executive Council and other top government officials signed the condolence register at the governor’s lodge in Abakaliki, the state capital.
It was learnt that Mrs Umahi died on Tuesday during a brief illness in a hospital in Enugu, the Enugu State capital.
According to Igwe, the government will observe a seven-day mourning period for her, with praise and worship sessions between 9.00 a.m. and 10.00 a.m. every morning.
“The morning session will be held at the Government House Chapel while the evening session will be held at the International Conference Centre, Abakaliki, between 6.00 p.m. and 7.00 p.m.
“All members of the executive council and other top government officials are expected to observe these activities religiously while permanent secretaries are to replicate the activities at their various ministries.
“Local Government Areas Caretaker Committee chairmen are also expected to replicate same at their various councils,” Igwe said.
Umahi thanked the officials for their concern during this period of grief and prayed God to reward them abundantly.
