Nigeria’s president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan promised the nation’s National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki that he “will make him Sultan of Sokoto,” the nation’s highest ruling northern and Muslim leader, insiders have revealed.

This ‘pact’, in addition to fears Dasuki has over billions in funds for security he has coveted and he knows the Buhari/Osinbajo authentic regime will investigate him for, is the powerful impetus behind his cooperation and indeed front stage role in orchestrating the poll shift.

Sambo Dasuki’s family, though heir to the throne is not the prominent family favored for the throne on most rotations.

Sambo Dasuki’s father, Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki was abruptly deposed from the seat by the Abacha government in 1996. This has not sat well with the Sambo family and NSA Sambo Dasuki holds vendetta against the state of Nigeria.

The selection of the Sultan is ultimately done by the State government, but the presidency can sponsor and blackmail to impose its wishes, as the Jonathan government had attempted in the case of the Emir of Kano. However it is gathered that President Jonathan had determinedly promised Sambo Dasuki that he would inherit the throne, which is currently being occupied by Sultan Saadu Abubakar, the son of Siddiq Abubakar III who inherited the throne from his elder brother, Muhammadu Maccido.

Although, the Dasuki family is a direct descendant of Uthman Danfodio, sources disclosed that it is not a favorite for the throne in Sokoto. This partly informs the reason the NSA is determined to occupy the throne.

Predictably, Dasuki is reported to be faced with two options- become the Sultan of Sokoto if Jonathan is re-elected or faces a jail term should General Mohammadu Buhari emerge as the president. Dasuki was alleged to have been the mastermind behind the arrest of Buhari during the IBB coup. He was also alleged to have vandalized Buhari’s home and facilitated the crash of his marriage to his first wife in the 80s.

It is pertinent to note that Dasuki has been alleged to be linked with several corruption practices, ostensibly carried out through contracts and purchasing military equipment for the military. He was alleged to have purchased refurbished MI Helicopters as new for the Nigerian Airforce from Belarus at the cost of $84 million per one which the market value is $15 million. The two have helicopters have since crashed and killed the pilots during both tragic occasions.

Dasuki was also alleged to have purchased a substandard UAV (Drones) from China at an exorbitant rate of $260 million as against a brand new UAV which was offered to Nigeria by Elbit Systems of Israel, who are the pioneers and leading UAV Manufacturers in the world at a lower cost of $16.5 million per one. The Chinese UAV crashed during its maiden flight at Mafa village in Borno State.
