The road leading to the hometown of President Goodluck Jonathan in Bayelsa is currently undergoing construction.
It was gathered that the federal government commenced construction on the 20.95 kilometre Yenagwe-Kolo-Bayelsa Palm-Otuoke Road on Tuesday.
According to reports the government also the completed and expanded 4.2 kilometre Mbiama-Yenagoa Road.
The Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, who performed the inauguration, said government reconstructed the road to enhance socio-economic development of the area.
Onolememen described the road as significant to nation building, saying that government was ready to fulfill its promises on providing accessible and safer roads. The Managing Director of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency, Gabriel Amuchi, described the inauguration of the Mbiama-Yenagoa Road as a milestone.
Amuchi said the road was a gateway to Bayelsa State, connecting the East-West Road and linking Rivers State and other states of the federation. He said the road would go a long way in supporting the movement of goods and services, noting that that it would also boost industrialisation in Bayelsa State and Nigeria.
“The expansion of this road will improve the economy of the state and chances of roads crashes will definitely be drastically reduced,” Amuchi said.
Governor Seriake Dickson, represented by his Chief of Staff, Talford Ogolo commended the Federal Government for ensuring that the three senatorial districts in the state were connected by road.
