Tekena Tamuno, professor, historian and former vice chancellor, University of Ibadan, UI is dead, aged 83. Having been diagnosed with prostate cancer last month, Tamuno travelled to the United States for medical attention and was believed to have recuperated afterward. Tamuno on Saturday.
Born in Okrika, Rivers state, Tekena Tamuno was former president, Nigeria Academy of Letters, chancellor, Redeemer’s University and chairman, Presidential Panel on National Security from October 2001 to December 2002. He was also on the federal government panel on Policing Nigeria Project, 2002- 2003, a poet, member, Rockefeller Foundation and the National Universities Commission.
