The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) finally opened up on how they spent over N11bn realised from the sale of forms to various aspirants ahead of the last general elections.

This comes as they called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to go after former governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the anti-graft agency of targeting only former PDP governors and members.

They specifically asked the commission to probe former governors of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu ,and Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State,

The acting national chairman of PDP, Uche Secondus, stated these when he received the minority leaders of the senate, who came to pay a solidarity visit to the party leadership. The senators were led by senate minority leader, Sen. Godswill Akpabio.

Aggrieved workers of the party had accused the leadership of squandering N12billion raised during the electioneering period. They workers were aggrieved over moves by the party to slash staff strength by 50 per cent and cause for revalidation of every staff of the party.

But reacting to the allegations leveled against the National Working Committee (NWC) by the workers, Secondus, who clarified that the amount realized was “about N11billion” and not 12billion denied allegations that no private account was opened.

Giving a breakdown of how they spent the money he said, “We did not open any private account. From sales of forms, we raised a little over N11billion to be shared among the national, states and zones. We gave state chapters 10 per cent; local government and zones 5 per cent each. 15 per cent for people on assignment, while the rest was used for election. We raised the money and we used the money for election, there was no embezzlement or fraud.”

He further said the faceoff between the NWC and the staff was over noting that the staff has apologized for their actions.

He however decried what he considered the witch hunt of PDP members by the EFCC and wondered why the commission has not gone after former Governors Bola Tinubu and Rotimi Amaechi inspite of the allegations against them.

He decried what they described as selective witch hunt of PDP chieftains who served in the President Goodluck Jonathan administration, stressing that anti-corruption crusade should not be selective and only against PDP members.
