Multi-Billion Naira Fraud: ICPC Invites, Interrogates Former Minister Godsday Orubebe

imageThe Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, has invited former minister of the Niger Delta ministry, Elder Godsday Orubebe, for interrogation.

A source at the ICPC said in Abuja that Orubebe arrived at the commission’s office Monday morning. The source said that the former governor was at the commission to honour the invitation by the anti graft agency.

Orubebe has been fingered in a multi-billion Naira fraud while he held sway at the ministry. It was alleged that the former minister entered into a criminal conspiracy with some officials using fictitious business names to commit fraud.

Information pieced together reveal an organized crime where officials raise vouchers and pay themselves.

One Mr Paloma, Orubebe’s confidant and a junior staff in the accounts department is involved in latest investigation to have disbursed N400 million naira corruption proceeds to the former Director of finance, DFA at the ministry.

It was gathered that Mr. Paloma working with other officials approved a number of contracts in the name of fictitious firms, using forged identity documents, allegedly at the behest of directors, who subsequently raised vouchers, with forged signatures of the permanent secretary and other relevant officers.

The probe into the scam involving officials of the Ministry is set to open the Pandora’s Box, as indicted officials last week threatened to tell it all with a vow to expose every incriminating documents including forged vouchers since inception of the ministry to anti graft agency officials.

However, it has also been confirmed that indicted officials have recovered a number of incriminating documents suggesting connivance of officials at all levels within the ministry.
