Impeachment: Lagos Assembly Pardons Femi Pedro

imageThe Lagos State House of Assembly yesterday invalidated the impeachment of a former deputy governor of the state, Mr. Femi Pedro, saying he had shown remorse and loyalty to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Pedro was impeached by the then House of Assembly for gross misconduct at the end of former governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s tenure on May 10, 2007.
The House at plenary yesterday noted that the allegations for which Pedro was impeached were not criminal.
36 members of the House voted in support of the pardon, one voted against while one abstained.
The House resolution followed the adoption of the recommendation of the eight man ad-hoc committee constituted on 2nd July, 2015 to review the circumstances that led to the impeachment.
The committee was headed by the Majority Leader, Sanai Agunbiade.
Speaking at the end of discussion on the report, the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, said since Pedro was not convicted of any crime by any court of law, the Assembly had decided to pardon him and reverse the impeachment.
