“The Duchess of Cambridge safely delivered a daughter at 8.34am,” Kensington Palace said.
The princess is now fourth in line to the throne.
The royal baby weighed 8lbs 3oz, slightly lighter than Prince George 8lbs 6oz.
“Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well,” a spokesperson confirmed.
“The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news,” the Palace also added.
After waiting patiently in her Kensington Palace apartment with her mother Carole over the last few days, the Duchess of Cambridge finally went into labour.
The Duchess of Cambridge was admitted to St Mary’s Hospital, London, in the early stages of labour, Kensington Palace confirmed just after 6.30am this morning.
George is currently being minded by his grandparents Carole and Michael. It is unsure yet whether he will arrive at the hospital today to visit his newborn sister.
