Jega Begins Ghana Tour

imageFormer chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Professor Attahiru Jega arrived in Ghana yesterday at the start of a four-day visit that will include lectures, dinners, stakeholder meetings as well as audiences with Ghana’s most important officials.
He will be a guest of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) of Ghana, a private think-tank established by the eminent Economist, Dr. Charles Mensa. It is part of activities to mark IEA’s 25th anniversary.
According to the program issued by IEA, Jega was received at the airport yesterday by Mrs Jean Mensa and other IEA officials. Today, he will feature on Joy FM radio station’s Super Morning Show. He will then pay courtesy calls on Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, flag bearer of the opposition New Democratic Party Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former Ghanaian President John Jerry Rawlings. He will meet with Ghana’s key election stakeholders, including government officials, clergymen, political party leaders and the donor community at a luncheon after which he will deliver a lecture at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Ridge.
On Tuesday, Prof Jega will pay a courtesy call on former Ghanaian President John Agyekum Kuffour, followed by a meeting with the Chairperson of the Ghanaian Electoral Commission Mrs. Charlotte Osei. A luncheon in his honour will be hosted by the British High Commissioner to Ghana Mr. Jon Benjamin, followed by a dinner with key stakeholders. Jega will travel to the Ghanaian city of Kumasi, capital of Ashanti Region, on Wednesday to deliver a lecture at the Golden Tulip Hotel. He will hold more meetings and luncheons sponsored by the Data Bank in Accra on Thursday and return to Nigeria on Friday.
