Lai Mohammed Hosts World Tourism Confab Monday

All is now set for the 61st United Nations World Tourism Organization Africa Regional Conference billed for June 4-6, in Abuja, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has said.

The Minister stated this while inspecting the venue of the conference halls to be used for the event on Friday, alongside Directors of the ministry and also members of the press.

He said he is satisfied with the level of preparation on ground and is confident the event will be a huge success.

Alhaji Mohammed noted that about 180 delegates, with 26 ministers of Tourism from Africa are expected to be in attendance.

He said the occasion will be a global platform for Nigeria to tell its story and showcase the diverse cultural heritage of the country, like dance, sights and sound of Nigeria.

“There is going to be about 6 to 7 different performances, and it is going to be a platform to showcase our diverse culture. On the third day, we are taking a trip to Lagos to see the Eko Atlantic City,” he said.

He said the meeting will also be an avenue to show to the world that Nigeria has made tremendous progress in the last few years in terms of insecurity and revamping the economy.

He added that four years ago it would have been impossible to host the meeting here in Nigeria and even Abuja because of threats of insurgency but now the country is not only at peace but ready to host the world.

“The event is a global platform for Nigeria to tell her story and highlight the progress made so far in the area of security, revamping the economy and culture,” he said.
