A man believed to be the oldest student of a formal school in Kano – and perhaps in the country – Muhammad Abubakar Modibbo, passed away at the age of 81.
Mr. Modibo’s dream of becoming a graduate was terminated by death midway into the journey.
Mr. Modibbo, an itinerant petty trader, never cared to pursue education at a young age until he was in his mid 70s when he finally settled at his birthplace.
A JSS 2 student of School for Arabic Studies (SAS), Modibbo died while trying to acquire education from the lowest to the highest level.
A native of Yakasai Quarters, Malam Modibbo passed his Common Entrance Examination after completing primary education at a community primary school in Kundila Quarters, Kano.
“He would be due for placement examination next year,” his teacher, Abdulkarim Ibrahim told this reporter.
The teacher said Mr. Modibbo was a bright and easy-going student who got along with both teachers and students.
“His dream to pursue his studies up to university level was cut short early by his sudden death,” said the teacher.
