SOME Northern lawmakers in the House of Representatives are reportedly rooting for the candidacy of Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila as Speaker and Honourable Abdulmumin Jibrin for the position of deputy speaker in the coming eighth Assembly.
Information pieced together by Nigerian Tribune showed that the idea of Honourable Gbajabiamila and Honourable Jibrin was yet to be sold to the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus in the House.
The source further revealed that ground work was in top gear to get majority of the caucus members to buy into the idea before an enlarged caucus meeting would be called to deliberate on their candidacy.
Nigerian Tribune, however, learnt that the APC National Working Committee (NWC), at a meeting held at the party’s national secretariat, had as part of its agenda, choice for the top job in National Assembly and other key appointment at the federal level.
The NWC, it was further learnt, deliberated on the ranking of its members in the National Assembly in respect of position of the Senate President, Deputy Senate President, Speaker, Deputy Speaker and other top jobs.
According to an insider, the NWC would review the members’ ranking in the National Assembly and recommend to the National Executive Committee (NEC) and national caucus for rectification.
The NEC and national caucus meeting was said to be scheduled for today and tomorrow.
