OKIGWE SENATE: Uwajumogu Rejects Election Result…Writes INEC

imageSPEAKER, Imo state House Assembly and senatorial candidate of All Progressive Congress, APC in Imo North (Okigwe) senatorial district, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu has utterly rejected the result of the senatorial election announced in the zone by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

In a protest letter to Attahiru Jega, dated March 29,2015 and signed by the Speaker and Barr. Emma Nwosu, APC Agent, alleged massive and overt irregularities and electoral malpractices allegedly perpetrated by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, during the election.

He specifically mentioned the situation in Isiala Mbano council, where he said the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate brought in over 16,000 votes with his own hands to Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC collection centre by 1pm of 29 march, when proper voting was marred in the area because of INEC inability to provide sensitive materials to the area.

He said the action was unacceptable to APC as it is a known fact that the INEC presiding officers and ward collation officers disappeared with the election materials, only to resurface by 1p.m the following day with the candidate of the PDP to submit an outrageous result.

In summary, he categorically stated that there was no proper conduct of senatorial elections in Ehime Mbano, Isiala Mbano,Onuimo and Okigwe LGAs in the Saturday March, 28 senatorial elections and the results announced did not emanate from any proper conduct of the said election. He further alleged that the wrong delivery of the ballot papers and other election materials meant for Imo east to Imo North by INEC was
deliberate and solely intended to fraudulently favour the PDP candidate, Ikemba Athan Achonu.

“ Therefore, I state in strong and unmistakable terms that I reject the entire results being circulated or any results to emanate from the said march 28, 2015 election for the senatorial election in the affected LGAs of Imo North as stated above,” Uwajumogu said”.

In his prayers to INEC, the APC candidate and his agent demanded “that any result to have arisen from the purported senatorial election of March 28, 2015 in Imo North should be rejected by INEC.

“that the entire results of the senatorial election in Imo North, namely: Onuimo, Okigwe, Isiala Mbano, Ehime Mbano, Ihitte Uboma and Obowo, should not be announced until proper senatorial election is conducted in that regard.

That proper senatorial election should, therefore, be conducted in Ehime Mbano, Isiala Mbano and Onuimo LGAs”.

Earlier in the petition, Chief Uwajumogu had accused Chief Tony Chukwu, a notable PDP chieftain in Ehime Mbano of camping some INEC adhoc staff in his house on the eve of the election “with the sole purpose to perfect his strategies to rig the election”.

He also alleged that Chief Chukwu hijacked election materials of most polling units in his ward, Umueze 1, Ehime Mbano LGA with a Hilux vehicle marked BS42FST and a Pathfinder Jeep belonging to one CY Emedom, one of Chief Chukwu’s boys.
