…As Obasanjo visits new Ooni of Ife, pays homage (PHOTO)
One person died near the Ife tollgate while several others sustained injuries yesterday as the Ooni-elect Adeyeye Ogunwusi entered the town to begin coronation rites.
Though there were heavy security presence as the Commissioner of Police in the state and the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps supervised their men yet they could not manage the traffic situation as excited drivers drove very recklessly.
Daily Trust correspondent saw a scene of accident where a lifeless body of an unidentified man was lying beside the road.
While some people made effort to evacuate the injured to hospital, the one man killed by a car was left having discovered that he was dead.
In other parts of the town, celebration continued as residents thronged drinking joints, wining and dining as they discuss the personality of their new monarch.
The family compound of the Ogunwusis at Agbedegbede area was also in celebration good as guests were entertained there.
Policemen were stationed at the family house of the new monarch to ensure safety of lives and property there.
Meanwhile, former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Wednesday visited the new Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi at Ile-Ife.
Obasanjo visited and paid homage just as the new king was presented to his people.
An aide of the former president explained that Obasanjo had to visit Ogunwusi on Wednesday because he had an overseas trip scheduled for Thursday.
During the visit, Obasanjo congratulated the new king, and wished him well as he mounted the throne of his forefathers.
