…Why Ife Residents Are Linking The Fire Incident To His Support For Adeyeye Ogunwusi
Residents of Ile-Ife town in Osun State have been thrown into confusion following a mysterious fire that razed the sprawling mansion of Chief Alex Oyekunle Duduyemi, the Asiwaju of the Source, Ile-Ife.
The ELITES gathered the incident happened a few days ago, when Asiwaju visited his country home, situated on University Road, Ibadan-Ife Road. The mysterious fire was said to have started in the middle of the night, when all occupants in the premises were fast asleep.
It was gathered a concerted effort, made by the domestic staff, led by Asiwaju Duduyemi’s personal assistant, Abbass, was what saved the billionaire from being consumed by the inferno. The domestic workers,reportedly, broke down the burglary proof of the window of his room, through which he was brought out.
Most people, who heard of the incident have expressed shock, as the cause of the fire outbreak which lasted several hours, is yet to be ascertained.
Sources disclosed that the mystery surrounding the fire outbreak is beginning to cause panic amongst Asiwaju Duduyemi’s friends and well-wishers. Some of them have expressed their fear that the fire incident was not just an accident. The mysterious inferno is being linked to the battle for the Ooni of Ife’s stool, in which Duduyemi is deeply involved in. It is gathered that the prominent billionaire and philanthropist, who celebrated his 80th birthday anniversary last August, is an ardent supporter of Prince Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, one of the contenders.
Sources disclosed to The ELITES that some prominent Ife indigenes are unhappy with Duduyemi for supporting the bid of a man, who is being alleged to have defrauded his late cousin, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, and whose candidacy is said to be causing so much rumpus in the town.
But Asiwaju Duduyemi is said to be unabashed by the furor his support for the controversial Adeyeye is generating. Yet, at the same time, he is reported to be heeding the advice of his loved ones to soft-peddle in his support for Adeyeye Ogunwunsi.
Following in his father’s footstep, Chief Henry Olaore Duduyemi, who was honoured by the Oba Adesoji Aderemi as the Parakoyi of Ife, Duduyemi also became the recipient of Oba Okunade Sijuwade’s honour and chiftaincy title of Aro of Ile-Ife in 1981.
In further recognition of his benevolence and commitment to the development of his ancestral home, Ile-Ife, Duduyemi, in December 2009, was conferred with the prestigious title; Asiwaju of Ile-Ife, a position of leadership entrusted to someone held in high regard.
