Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala has charged the people to vote out Governor Abiola Ajimobi in Saturday’s governorship election, saying that the people will be liberated if they do so.
According to him, Governor Abiola Ajimobi plans to impose tax on landlords in Ibadan, the state capital. This, he said, would enable the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration to further “impoverish the already wrethched landlords in the State”.
Speaking through his director of public affairs, Oludare Ogunlana. Alao-Akala alleged that the plot by the APC to rig the election has been uncovered, urging the people to resist any attempt to subvert their wish by anyone.
His words: “In the next few hours, we will be taking critical steps which will either make or mar this State. As a matter of urgency and in order not to fall into the same pit we fell some years back, we should vote for a governor who loves the people. Alao-Akala fits into this.
“Against what he promised you when he was campaigning in 2011, the condition of poverty-stricken Okada riders was made unbearable when Abiola Ajimobi through a company named ‘Synacom’. The State ordered all owners of commercial motorcycles to register with the sum of N3500 each before they could ply Oyo roads. He and his allies subsequently realised N400 million from this syndicate between 2013 and 2015. On each year, he personally collected N315 million and the remaining balance was shared by his cronies.
“This must stop and the only way it can be stopped is by sending Abiola Ajimobi away as governor with your thumbs. It is glaring that he has no business continuing in government house.”
He, however, thanked the president-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari “for heeding our call not to associate with a corrupt man like Abiola Ajimobi. We are proud of him because his coming would have stained his hard-earned integrity”.
He expressed optimism that “Alao-Akala would win because Ajimobi has already been rejected by the people and that is why he would not stop at anything to rig the election in his favour through the effort of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Amb. Rufus Akeju who was an aide to APC national leader, former governor Bola Tinubu.
