It was a most auspicious moment as the creme-de-la-creme in Nigeria and Africa gathered at Okori Eleme palace to celebrate global icon, His Royal Highness, King Dr. Appolus Chu JP as he marked his 50th birthday anniversary in grand style.
Nigeria’s president, Mohammadu Buhari, who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, described King Appolus Chu as a monarch with undeniable love for the nation and national integration. He stressed that these attributes have attracted dignitaries even beyond the shores of Nigeria to honour and celebrate with him.
President Buhari expressed his sincere appreciation to King Chu for his enormous contributions to the country.
Also speaking at the event, the Honourable Minister for Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen described Dr. Appolus Chu as “A detribalized Nigerian, a great philanthropist, a man with a heart of gold especially towards widows and orphans, a father to the fatherless and to the downtrodden”
Dame Tallen noted that she was compelled by the outstanding contributions and achievements of King Chu to gather Nigerian women to celebrate him on his birthday, adding that Nigeria would be a happier place for all, if other traditional rulers emulated this gesture.
In his address, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Almed Idris Wase, thanked Dr. Appolus Chu for his uncommon contributions to the development of Nigeria while wishing him good health and longlife.
He pledged to continually support the monarch’s strides for national peaceful coexistence devoid of religious, tribal and zonal sentiments.
Also speaking at the event, the president of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI noted that he was overwhelmed by the achievements of King Chu while assuring him of his support to actualize his dreams for traditional rulers in Africa.
Responding to the floodgate of accolades and eulogies, Dr. Appolus Chu expressed his joy and heartfelt gratitude to the dignitaries who came to celebrate with him.
He noted that anyone has supported him has also supported his people. He called on the people of Okori to take cognizance of the traditional rulers, who have demonstrated love towards them and consider them as part of the community.
King chu in an interview with newsmen further stated his commitment to improve and extend his philanthropic gesture to other parts of the country with his humility intact.
“I’m expecting to see that I expand my philanthropic gesture to reach out to more people and still ensure that I demonstrate high level of humility to mankind”
Dr. Chu pledged to commit the rest of his days on earth towards nation building, community development and social rehabilitation while expressing appreciation to God, President Buhari and all the dignitaries who shared in the celebration with him.
Other dignitaries who graced the event were; the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Ameachi, represented by Chief Victor Giadom, the deputy speaker ECOWAS parliament who is the speaker, Gambia Parliament, HRM Munamandou Bojang, the Sukuta Kambo Kingdom Gambia, Hon. Fred Igwe and several traditional rulers across the country amongst several others
