Last weekend, Olufunke Aboyade, prominent lawyer, journalist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, and her husband, Adebayo Douherty hosted the wedding ceremony in Lagos. The wedding ceremony was between her daughter, Mayowa Douherty and Emiko Ubebe.
Funke, 52, is the second daughter of Professor Ojetunji Aboyade, eminent Economist, an erudite and distinguished scholar of international repute and a gifted administrator, who died in 1994. Her mother, Professor Bimpe Aboyade is the first woman in sub-Saharan Africa to gain a PhD in English Literature, and she is now a retired Professor of Library Studies.

Funke gained her LL.M from the University of Cambridge (Jesus College) in 1985 with distinctions in several courses. Prior to this, she had been admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1983, emerging in the top 1% of her graduating set at the Nigerian Law School. Before that, she attended the University of Ife where she graduated in the top 1% of her class, obtaining her LL.B in 1982. In all three, she graduated with Second Class Upper Division, winning prizes and distinctions.

A member of the International Bar Association and the Nigerian Bar Association where she served as a pioneer council member of the Section on Business Law, she is a much sought after speaker and has presented papers locally and internationally. She has spoken widely on diverse topics that range from law to leadership. She is also a rare two-time Fellow of the world class Salzburg Seminar, Austria.
