“My attention has been drawn to a statement credited to me by Sahara Reporters that The Buhari regime will be worse for Yorubas than the preceding regimes.
This statement was taken out of context. I spoke for 30 minutes at a conference organized by Afenifere Renewal Group North America in Detriot, United States of America.
The issue in discussion was Yoruba unity and the conflicts among its many political groups as well as leaders.
The exact words I said was “If the Yorubas do not unite and find a common purpose the Buhari regime will be worse for our people than previous regimes”.
Some political jobbers have gone on to interpret this statement to mean that I declare war on Buhari regime.
Who am to declare war on a regime that I joined other patriots to put in place?
I am a change advocate and I strongly believe this regime will bring about the necessary change in our national life .
I however insist that if we Yorubas fail to put our acts together and recognize the challenges facing us and our homeland and put it as a single and collective entity before the other ethnic groups that form NIGERIA, development will be far from us no matter our effort at bringing to being this regime of change.
If we are disunited are we going to be able to take benefit of the change we fought for?
If we are disunited are we not going to be objects of manipulation?
Was it not disunity that caused the crisis in the West in the early 60s?
Was it not this that snowballed into the civil war?
Was it not disunity among the Yorubas that led to the problem in Ondo that gave birth to another military regime on the eve of 1984?”
