The governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and his Ogun counterpart, Dr Dapo Abiodun were among dignitaries on the roll call as Madam Augusta Olujoke Davies ( nee Oluwole) was laid to rest in Lagos, recently.
Mama Olujoke, the widow of late nationalist, Chief H. O Davies, was buried shortly after a funeral service in her honour at Methodist Church, Olowogbowo, Lagos Island. The service was presided by the Archbishop of Lagos Diocese, Methodist Church Nigeria, Most Revd Dr. Isaac Ayobami Olawuyi.
In his exhortation, Olawuyi said Mama Olujoke’s evergreen legacy on earth lives on in death, just as he emphasised the need for a goldly life in a transient world.
He said the deceased would be remembered for her acts of benevolence and service to God.
In his tribute, Governor Abiodun said the life and times of the deceased was a confirmation of the fact there are no coincidences with God.
“That she eventually married the man who read out her name on the day of her christening is yet an evidence that God ordains man’s steps and future, and that life is not a coincidence.
“Life is good by the impact we make, number of lives touched, service and generousity. Mama ticked all these boxes. She loved and served God”, he said.
Sanwo-Olu who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Barr. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin described the deceased as a lifelong learner.
He said the deceased decision to return to school at the age of 79 to learn computer is worth emulating and to say that no one is too old to learn.
“Her unmatched contributions will remain indelible in the lives of those she has touched. She was a charismatic lady, a pillar of strength and an advocate of the downtrodden. May God grant her eternal repose”, she prayed.
