Senate Presidency: Support From APC and PDP Senators Brightens Saraki’s Chances

imageThe recent support Bukola Saraki got from his colleagues, has brightened his chances of becoming the next president of the Senate.

Two weeks ago, Ahmed Lawan was touted as the consensus candidate when All Progressives Congress (APC) senators met, but it seems that the report was founded on thin, air as recent reports emanating from APC senators claim that barring any last minute hitch, Senator Saraki will clinch the seat.

It was gathered that 37 out of 59 senators belonging to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as well as 27 out of the 49 PDP senators have pledged support for his candidacy.

According to the Chairman, Contact and Mobilization Committee in support of Senator Bukola Saraki for Senate President, Engineer Ibrahim Gobir and Senator representing Sokoto east who disclosed this in a statement issued in Gusau, Zamfara State, signed by the media aide to the lawmaker, Bello Anka and made available to newsmen confirmed that the number of lawmakers supporting Saraki.

“This confirms the success of Bukola Saraki to become the next Senate President”, the statement noted.

In a similar development, the Chairman, Contact and Mobilization Committee for Saraki urged the remaining senators to support the candidature of Bukola Saraki as President of the Senate, “knowing very well that if Bukola Saraki becomes the Senate President, he will carry everybody along irrespective of geo-political zone, tribe or political differences”.

The statement further claimed that it is a well-known fact that Bukola Saraki is an experienced politician with high sense of maturity which could enable him to move the Upper Chamber of the 8th National Assembly successfully.
