PETITION LETTER SUBMITTED BY APC AND ITS GUBER CANDIDATE TO THE CHAIRMAN, INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION ” INEC” ABUJA PROF ATTAHIRU JEGA
TARABA STATE GUBERNATORIAL AND HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS HELD ON SATURDAY, 11th APRIL 2015
We wish to congratulate you on your well articulated, well coordinated and well conducted
2015 elections. Your foresight and courage in controlling electoral malpractices and thereby
conducting the BEST elections Nigeria ever held is highly commendable and you will go down in history of this Nation as the first person to conduct free, fair and credible election.
Sir, the result of the gubernatorial/ House of Assembly elections in Taraba State were
declared inconclusive due to cancellations as a result of electoral malpractices and offences.
We the APC in Taraba State watched and observed with keen interest the matured way you
handled the collation of the Presidential election. In fairness to everybody and in line with electoral laws, each State returning Officer after presenting his reports you used to ask him
whether there are cancellations. All returning Officers have to confirm cancellations or non of
it in the State they are returning. If there are cancellations they had to indicate the area,
number of units affected, total number of votes etc. They also fill and sign relevant forms
containing such reports/information. You then collect and enter the results accordingly.
However, we wish to report that in the case of Taraba State Gubernatorial election, the final
results were declared ” inconclusive” as a result of cancellations caused through malpractices. If the results were announced less the cancellation
which he himself confirmed by declaring a lot of cancellations in his final judgement, the
SENATOR AISHA ALHASSAN , the APC candidate has won, however denied.
The issues are now as follows:
(a) Cancellation of election/ votes is done to punish electoral offenders, thereby making them
not to repeat offences. However, if electoral offenders were allowed to re-elect then a very
dangerous precedent is set which can be very dangerous for our improved democracy through your efforts.
(b) Prayers:
SENATOR AISHA ALHASSAN should be declared as the winner having satisfied all requirements.
(1) Alternatively, re- election should be done in the whole State or (2) re elections in the whole local government areas affected not units as proposed by INEC.
Those areas in questions were mar by harassment and intimidation by security personnel by the instructions of the new Minister, Bwatcha, Manzo etc ( PDPies) Local governments like; Wukari, Kurmi, Takum, Donga , Zing, Yorro, Karim Lamido and Lau respectively.
Most of the electorates in the aforementioned LOCAL GOVERNMENTS did not exercise their civil duty to vote for the candidates of the choice, the voting was done on their behalves by malpractices.
We wish Mr Chairman will look into our prayers and declare Sen Aisha Alhassan as the GOVERNOR ELECT ON THE 11th April, 2015
