The Queen Attends Decommissioning Ceremony For Britain’s Biggest Warship

The Queen today attended the decommissioning ceremony for Royal Navy’s HMS Ocean. HMS Ocean has completed 20 years of service for the Royal Navy and has been involved in operations off Sierra Leone in 2000, Iraq in 2003 and Libya in 2011. Most recently she carried out humanitarian operations in the Caribbean following the disastrous affects that Hurricane Irma.
At the decommissioning The Queen said, “With three generations of naval officers in my family, I recognise the significant demands that have been placed on all those who have served in the Ship over the last two decades, as well as the contribution of their families and loved ones.” Her Majesty later joined The Captain on board for lunch onboard and met the crew and their families.
