ThisDay Reopens As Obaigbena Commences Payment of Salary Backlog

The premises of ThisDay newspaper in Apapa, Lagos State has been opened.

The company’s head office was shut beginning from 5am on Tuesday by workers protesting the failure to pay their salary in the last eight months.

Some staff put the outstanding at nine months.

However, with the commencement of one month salary to the staff on Tuesday afternoon, the gates to the company were swung open.

The Publisher of the newspaper, Nduka Obaigbena, has also promised to clear the remaining outstanding latest by Friday.

As at press time, some of the staff had been paid the promised one month salary, while others were awaiting alerts from their banks to confirm payment.

The staff, under the aegis of National Union of Printing and Paper Product Workers, ThisDay chapter, have, however, said if by the close of work on Tuesday any staff has not received the one month being paid, the company would not be opened on Wednesday.

The workers also said if by Friday the outstanding was not paid, strike will still be resorted to.
