The National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Muiz Banire, yesterday, shunned the sitting of a disciplinary committee set up by the Ward C chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos State.
Banire was few weeks ago accused by two members of the party, Mr. Olukayode Tunde Tolu and Mr. Ayodeji Adebayo, of alleged anti-party activities and misappropriation of campaign materials and logistics.
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC had since exonerated Banire, saying the local chapter did not have the powers to sanction a national officer.
The sitting of the committee, scheduled to hold at the Bishop Aggey Memorial School, Ilasamaja, Mushin, was attended by party members in the area.
It was presided over by the Committee Chairman, Mr. Bolaji Abass, while the Secretary, Mr. Laide Badru; the General Counsel, Mr. Wunmi Bewaji, and a Member, Mrs. Muinat Mustapha, also attended the session.
Abass said the function of the committee was simply to examine the allegations levelled against Banire by concerned members of the party, saying the committee would be fair in arriving at its decision which would then be submitted to the ward executive of the party for onward delivery to the local government and then the state executive of the APC.
The secretary of the committee later displayed copies of advertorials in two national dailies and evidence of receipt of courier letter inviting Banire for the sitting.
In his testimony before the committee, Olukayode, who was one of the petitioners, said Banire had committed “grievous atrocities” against the party, including series of acts of indiscipline, which must not go unpunished.
But in a twist, the APC Ward C Chairman and General Secretary, Mr. Bunmi Church, and Oredola Gabriel, disowned the disciplinary committee, saying they knew nothing about its inauguration.
