Ambode Takes Lagos…Agbaje’s Dilemma By Ivor Ekpe

imageAkinwunmi Ambode has many people to thank for making next weekend’s Governorship elections in Lagos State easier than it might have been.
First, the President-Elect (Gen.) Muhammadu Buhari’s victory at the Center changes a lot of the dynamics in his favour.
Dispassionately, the PDP Challenge wanes when one seeks to position Lagos in the Opposition yet again and the Ambode Camp has smartly latched onto this fact, and made their play accordingly.
All they need do is remind Lagosians of 16 years of struggle against an opposing Central Government and the ‘even greater heights’ Lagos could have reached if the State was in sync with the party at the Center.

Who wants all that ‘difficulty’ over the next possible 160 years?

imageSecondly, the Jagaban. Sounds like a Japanese Warlord’s title.
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed looms large in Lagos, having proven that he indeed understands and plays best the Nigerian Political space.
In my opinion, Asiwaju has reached the pinnacle of his magic act. He has made a President. He has broken the hitherto unbreakable PDP. He has exceeded all expectations and now has nothing else to prove. Much as he may or may not be liked, Asiwaju Tinubu must be respected for his cunning brilliance at playing our political space.

Thirdly, Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, The Golden Boy of Modern Nigerian Leadership.
To ‘change’ in Lagos means to reject the efforts of Gov. Fashola over the last eight years.
The skyline of Lagos and many areas of note have changed for the better and forever.image
Many will hide behind their ‘disapproval’ of The Jagaban to maintain their clamour for Change in Lagos.
In counter-argument many others will now say, If Fashola goes to the center in some capacity as it is now likely, Lagos will be ‘safe’.
Finally, Ambode will have the PDP itself to thank.
The antics of the OPC, the ‘Escape from Alcatraz’ suggestion by Bode George and the Obanikoro enigma will do more to help Ambode and hurt the chances of Jimi Agbaje.
JK is no longer OK unless one simply hangs on to the thought/prayer/dream that Lagos in ‘commercial’ terms will help resuscitate the PDP.
Afterall, the APC have shown the value of holding on to Lagos and nowhere else!
I am calling a ‘Lagos Hold’ for the APC and I am confident enough to call it early.
