Fashola To Lagosians: Shun Leaders Who Preach Division

….As Governor continues campaign for Buhari, Ambode, other APC Candidates in Ajegunle
The campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos led by Governor Babatunde Fashola, SAN in company of the All Progressives Congress gubernatorial flag bearer, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday berthed at the Ajeromi- Ifelodun Local Government Area with the Governor urging Nigerians to keep away from leaders who preach division across ethnic lines.

The Governor who spoke while addressing a large turnout of party supporters and candidates at the Open Ground beside the Ajeromi- Ifelodun Local Government Secretariat added that Nigerians have lived together for several hundreds of years without any problems.

He said the type of leader Nigeria needs at this time are leaders who can bring the people together and not leaders like the current one at centre who promote ethnicity and who want to divide the people or create differences which hitherto never existed amongst the people.

He stated that it was very worrisome and regrettable that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship candidate in Lagos was also reported as saying that the South South part of Nigeria would break away if President Jonathan loses the February 14 elections.

He said he was certain that the PDP would lose the Presidential elections and that people preaching divisiveness would not be able to do anything about it as the wind of positive change of the APC is already blowing all over the country.

He reiterated that Lagos State has always been a centre of peaceful coexistence and would always remain so because even in the Ajeromi- Ifelodun Local Government which is a melting pot for all nationalities and fountain of sporting and musical excellence, nobody emphasizes where anybody comes from.

He said the only way to ensure that Nigeria remains one is for every eligible voter to go and collect their Permanent Voters Card to be eligible to vote on February 14 to elect General Muhammadu Buhari as the next President of the country and put a stop to the politics of separation and discrimination that is being played by the PDP at the centre.

He stated that already the ruling party at the centre is getting jittery and desperate by virtue of the message of change that is reverberating across the country and even outside the nation such that the outdoor advertising that Local Governments are constitutionally empowered to take charge of is being taken over by agents of the Federal Government.

He explained that all the outdoors adverts of the Glo Mobile and Huawei on Lagos roads have been removed and replaced with President Jonathan’s reelection campaign posters thus leading to the cancellation of a N350Million contract from the two mobile companies.

He added that the implication of the action of the agents of the President who purports to have the interest of the youth at heart is that several young people who hitherto earned a living from those mobile giants through the outdoor advertising contracts may be pushed into the unemployment market anytime from now

He also accused the Federal Government of promoting insecurity adding that Policemen were not paid their December salaries while the State Government is responsible for maintaining the Police in Lagos and providing them with fuel allowance especially the Rapid Response Squad.

“They are taking your local government money, destroying your local government properties. by breaking contracts you know what would happen to those companies that have cancelled this contracts, they will retrench young people who are working with them”.

“And he would come here and tell you that he would create new jobs. That is why their candidate said he would cancel the Lekki Toll road. There are still construction companies there and when you cancel it the construction company would drive many people out of jobs. Is that the kind of government you want?. They are not the type of leaders you can trust”.

“You should understand it that anytime construction is going on, employment is going on, the labourers get employment. Even the food seller on the construction site is also earning a living. When we build roads or schools, somebody is selling iron rods, somebody is selling planks”, he stressed.

The Governor said his administration believes that promises are social contracts which it entered with the voting public and which it must always keep, adding that the administration promised to deliver Cardoso Road, Mba Road, the Maternal and Child Care (MCC) Hospital while work is on going on Gaskiya College road.

He said the recent disclosure by Mr Jimi Agbaje that the state earmarks only three percent of its budget on education as one that clearly shows that Mr Agbaje does not read the State’s Budget, yet he wants to govern Lagos State.

On the Blueline light rail project, the Governor said four stations are completed already namely the Mile 2 station, Alaba, Orile and National Theatre Stations, giving a commitment that in the spirit of continuity, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode would complete the project.

While addressing the party supporters, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, said he has undergone tutelage while serving the State in various capacities under both Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Babatunde Fashola and that he would put it into practice when he is elected .

He reiterated that he would continue with all the lofty programmes of the Babatunde Fashola administration and ensure that those that are still ongoing like the expansion of the Lagos Badagry Expressway are completed.

“Here in Ajegunle, we have many talented sports men and women and entertainment artistes as well, we should have champions among them in this area. I am promising you that we are going to give you a sports centre that will be first of its kind like that of Maracana Stadium in this community”.

“Beyond that, we have many musical artistes and we shall arrange how to bring more entertainment centres here. We shall give to you everything that you want for the fact that you have been playing your part in the last 15 years in Lagos State”, he added.

He implored everyone to vote for experience in Lagos State by ensuring victory for the APC government through the ballot on February 14th while also ensuring that the APC is voted to continue the good work in Lagos and other parts of the country on February 28.

The rally also featured the presentation of APC flags to the Senatorial Candidate for Lagos West Mr. Olamilekan Solomon, the House of Representatives candidate for Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency Mr. Taiwo Adenekan, and the two House of Assembly candidates for Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Mr. Abdoulbaq Ladi Balogun and Mr. Kolawole Taiwo by the Chairman of APC in Lagos State, Chief Henry Ajomale who was supported by other leaders of the party.

Prominent among those at the rally which had a huge attendance by party faithful , were wife of the APC Gubernatorial candidate, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode, running mate for Governorship Aspirant, Dr.(Mrs) Idiat Oluranti Adebule, Former Chairman Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, Prince Rabiu Oluwa, and other party chieftains.
