Online car dealer jailed for N5m fraud

A businessman who sells cars for a living on the internet, Abiola Akinlonu has been arraigned before a Lagos State magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining the sum of N5m from one Ikenna Ezeoka under the pretence that he will sell two cars to him on the internet but instead he allegedly converted the money to his personal use.
Akinlonu was arrested by the operatives of the Police Special Fraud Unit, PSFU, Milverton Street, Ikoyi, Lagos and after investigation by Inspector Ogar and his team, Akinlonu, a resident of 10, Samuel Awoniyi Street, Opebi, Lagos was arraigned before an Igbosere magistrates’ on a three-count charge of felony to wit, stealing.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Adoga Amedu informed the court in charge C/22/2016 that the accused committed the offence in 2013 at 17, Abbi Street, Mende, Maryland, Lagos.
Amedu told the court that the accused collected the sum of N5m from the complainant to sell one Ford Explorer jeep and one Range Rover SuV for him through the internet but that after collecting the money, he converted it to his personal use and failed to produce the cars.
Amedu said the offences the accused committed are punishable under sections 409, of the criminal laws of Lagos state, 2011.
The accused however denied the allegations in court.
Chief Magistrate Mrs A Komolafe admitted him to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Komolafe adjourned the case till 24 May 2016 for mention while the defendant was taken to Ikoyi prison pending when he will fulfil his bail conditions.
