Taiwo Ajai-Lycett Should Be Honoured

JAIYEOLA AJASA.

Who is she? Millions will ask. What has she ever done? Millions more will ask. Was she ever in anything good? The multitude of millions will want to know. We are in a country where Chinedu Ikedieze, is MFR. And Taiwo Ajai Lycett is not. Nothing against Pawpaw. To each its own. Some people might argue that he is a good actor. To me, he is not. Not even close. He like many we celebrate cannot act like they are burning. If you pour gasoline and set them on fire. Just me thinking. He is not a good actor. Because I grew up watching Taiwo Ajai-Lycett. I grew up seeing the best on television. WINDS AGAINST MY SOUL was as good as any series not only in Nigeria. But in the World. Laolu Oguniyi, wrote and directed this series. Taiwo Ajai-Lycett brought it to life. As she did everything she was part off. She played a part in the British comedy series SOME MOTHERS DO HAVE THEM. She was a part of trained thespians that took pride in their profession. Many had to keep regular jobs because there was no money in acting…….Those days. Lai Ashadele (Lakunle Ojo was a bank worker). An era, that a lot of these generation do not know about. An era that we will celebrate by giving her the tribute she deserves. Our youth need to know greats like Taiwo, Oguniyi, Jimi Sholanke, James Iroha, Tunji Oyelana, Jab Adu, Chika Okpala, Lari Williams, Jimi Odumosu, Sam Loco Efe, Lola Fani-Kayode, to name but a few. We need to travel back. To learn how to navigate the future. Taiwo and co did it when all you had for it was the love of the art. Not money. It was sheer boldness to be an actor in the days when everybody wanted to be either a doctor or a lawyer. Any other profession was looked down upon. But someone had to do it. Somebody had to give us joy. Sacrifice to make our days from working in the hospitals and law firms relaxing. Taiwo Ajai-Lycett and these great people did. Honor her. Honor that era. Teach the youth about yesterday. When we were kings.

SOMEBODY TAKE UP THE TASK……A NIGHT OF STARS IN HONOR OF TAIWO AJAI-LYCETT……….While she is still here.
